A POUND OF WHEAT
DOCUMENTARY / A 2008 / DIGI BETA / 52 MINUTES
A film by Eva-Maria Berger
SYNOPSIS
“A bread crumb is worth more than a ton of gold.” – a Russian proverb
It’s a long way from a single seed to a fresh loaf of bread. Where does the wheat actually originate – one of the most important major food sources. And who are the people that have dedicated their life to farming?
The film accompanies 3 farmers from the preparation of the field in the autumn up to the harvest and selling of the grain in the summer. It follows the rhythm of daily life on three farms that have one common objective – to optimally sell their grain.
The operations are comparable in size, income and social structure, although they are at home in very different cultures. While the farmers act similarly in milking, in investing, with new agricultural regulations and in daily family life, there are essential differences.
